L&D Case Study
The company featured in this case study operates within the transportation sector. Its name has been altered or withheld to maintain privacy, therefore we’ll refer to it as ‘TransportCo’ throughout this piece. TransportCo identified a need for a comprehensive Logistics Management Course to arm their Supply Chain Analysts with enhanced skills and knowledge. A specific requirement for the course was the implementation of an automated email system. This system would notify the learner’s supervisor whenever a query was raised about the ‘Network Design in Supply Chain’ module. In short, TransportCo strived for its training to function interactively, whilst ensuring that crucial events didn’t go unnoticed and that the pathway to learning was as smooth as possible for their participants.
Traditional elearning authoring tools can provide a functional and interactive digital learning experience, but they have their limits when it comes to implementing certain automation aspects, such as custom notifications. Specifically, they often lack the capability to automatically recognize a user’s interactions in granular detail, such as when they’ve submitted a query on a particular module like ‘Network Design in Supply Chain’. Additionally, linking this action to an automated email alert to the learner’s supervisor is beyond the capability of many legacy tools. This form of customization requires advanced tools that can integrate with email platforms and identify specific triggers within the learning content. Legacy elearning authoring tools operate largely in the realm of content creation and presentation, while such intricate, event-driven automation require robust Learning Management Systems equipped with newer, more sophisticated technologies.
To solve the problem of sending automated emails based on specific triggers within the course, TransportCo used the Email Messaging eLearning Widget. This tool integrated seamlessly with Articulate Storyline and Adobe Captivate and allowed emails to send without the learner having to initiate them. With this, it was possible to send follow-up materials to enhance the learners’ overall experience, notify managers when learners make specific selections or responses, and even email certificates of course completion to learners directly. Crucially, the widget allowed for an automated email to be sent to a learner’s supervisor when they submitted a query about a specific module, fulfilling the company’s requirement. The Email Widget ensured that no critical events went unnoticed and all stakeholders were kept in the loop effortlessly.
Case Study Outcome
The case study outcome was a positive one. With the Email Messaging eLearning Widget, TransportCo managed to tackle the limitations they faced with the old elearning tools. The widget’s capabilities meant that automated emails could be sent to different parties based on the learner’s activities. This included managers being notified when learners made specific choices in the course, or when learners requested more information about a module. By using this widget, TransportCo fully customized their learning experience. It helped improve communication, made tracking course progress easier and overall, made their Logistics Management Course more effective and interactive. Ultimately, it enhanced the quality of their training while staying in tune with their employees’ learning journey.
